It’s been a struggle coming to terms with your passing, Funmi. Since we met in primary school, you’ve always been a kind and thoughtful soul. Through your simple, plain, fun and consistently authentic nature, you made being your friend so easy. Though our paths parted after primary school as we attended different secondary schools and universities, yet our friendship remained alive mainly because of you. And for that, I will always be grateful to you. It was you who most often took the initiative to keep in touch. I remember how you would pay a visit at my home from time to time during the secondary school and university holidays. Your friendship was unconditional; you never complained that I only returned the gesture only on a few occasions. You were always fun to be with and a joy to laugh with. It was always easy to be comfortable in your presence. Your authenticity evoked authenticity in others. I will always remember your dimpled smile and the unique bounce that characterized your walk. They will always remind me of the pure joy that you were and the excitement with which you approached life. I am grateful to God that our paths crossed – and early too! I will cherish our friendship forever. Rest in peace, Funmi. You’ll be greatly missed!
